Visit Tatooine

A Long Time ago in a country far far away....

1976, George Lucas was looking for a place to film his "Space Opera" and need a desert planet to match his idea of Tatooine.

This was found in Matmata, Tunisia.

On the day before our planned day to visit Matmata through an organised trip 37 year later, someone decided to assassinate a major left-wing political leader of the Tunisian Government.  It was a time of civil unrest, protesting in the streets, national strikes.  The excursion was cancelled.

We decided to hire a car and driver to take us on a five hour trip down south to Matmata to see the troglodyte holes that the slaves of mos espa called home.

As we were nearing our destination our driver who was nearly dying all the way there, decided to tune into the local radio

Matamata (or Mos Espa) was a great tour and we got to try local bread, and even saw Obi Wan doing his shopping! Even if we did nearly get ripped off by a local Jawa!

On leaving Mos Espa, we reached the top of a slight mountain, in front of us was Mos Eisley Space Port, where you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

POST EDIT:
If you are going to have someone like a post of yours about going to visit Tattooine and Mos Espa, then why not the guy who grew up there?
